We had an early breakfast, since we’d parked in the council building’s car park and people would be getting into work about 9 and think about getting our car towed. The service was really good, and the lady was very friendly. The food was rather greasy, but it was an english breakfast, after all!
We decided we’d go see Muncaster castle and then head to Keswick for the night, so we could see the Castlerigg Stone Circle in the morning. Plans of Mice and Men…
The weather was fantastic again today. The first place we stopped was Windermere. It’s such a beautiful place with its slate walled buildings:
Then we had to stop for a quick picture of this cute little church:
And this lake in the early morning, was just fantastic. The boats in the harbour, the castle on the island, the mountains in the background:
Next stop was Ambleside, another quaint city in the Lake District:
Then headed towards Keswick, passing some beautiful landscape along the way:
We took a walk/climb from a car park not far from Keswick. It said it was ‘accessible’, but I beg to differ. There’s no way you can get a wheelchair up there. Maybe the first 300m or so. There were fantastic views along the path, especially at the top where we climbed onto the rocks:
Next stop was Keswick. We were meant to have driven to Muncastle a different way, but ended up here. We must have taken a wrong turn somewhere… Since we were here, and we’d meant to stay the night here anyway, we thought we’d find some accommodation first. We asked at a few places, but ended up at Keswick Park Hotel – it’s 78 GBP for the room, with breakfast and parking included, and we liked the guy, so we took it. It was 2pm by now and we were hungry so instead of heading to Muncastle, we decided to bring the car to the hotel, have lunch and then do a bit of walking around here and see the sights in Keswick and just relax a bit:
One of the walks that was recommended to us at the hotel was down to Friar’s Crag. This was quite beautiful:
We headed back to the hotel for an early night, so I could catch up on the blog and there is a bar there…
