We left Aultbea (actually, closer to Laide), heading in the direction of John O’Groat, the top-east of Scotland from where we’ll go to Orkney. The scenery was beautiful once again. There’s not much in the way of bigger towns out here.
Ullapool was a bit larger for the area:
Back on the road, heading to Kylesku:
We saw the ruin of Castle Ardvreck, of the Clan McLeod:
More on the road to Kylesku:
We stopped to have lunch in Kylesku before heading for Durness, but we met Margaret and her partner and they were telling us about the charms of the Summer Isles, about 30 miles back from where we were, so we decided to head back there to capture the sights with my camera
We only got as far as Lochinvar, the last somewhat bigger village, where we decided to spend the night. I’d rung a few places at Aichiltibuie, but they were either full or too expensive. The Rose Guest House B&B is only 25 GBP per person and they had a twin (actually a triple share) for us. It’s not got an ensuite but has fantastic view. We liked the guy running the place, so we took it and went into town for dinner.
