Germany – Trip to Bremen

Today was the first day I went on a longer trip since taking a week off in Duesseldorf. The Deutsche Bahn had a super special on the weekend, allowing trips anywhere within Germany for 20 Euro one way. Irene didn’t want to go anywhere we had to stay overnight, and she’d never been to Bremen, so we took a trip there on an early train (2 hr 45 min) and then a late train back.
We saw all the normal things you see there: the Unesco listed City Hall and Roland statue out the front. The Bremer city musicians, the Boettcher Street and Schnoor Quarter, as well as the Cathedral and the Church. We also met up with Arno, who’s leaving for Aus a day after me next week, and had a lovely lunch at the Ratskeller restaurant at Bremen.
Since I’ve been to Bremen before and photographed it last time I was in Germany, I didn’t take any photos except of the city hall because it’s been cleaned since last time and I’d never been inside before:

Some of the rooms are still being used and not available to the general public, but others are available for viewing with a tour for 5 Euro. These rooms are also still used but not all the time:

The ground floor of city hall is an exhibition room accessible to everyone without a guided tour:

And these were new too, I’m sure:

And at the Story Museum:

We took the tram to Arno’s for a nice afternoon coffee and then took it back to town for the train home at 7:44pm, to arrive home around 11pm. All in all a nice day out.
Tomorrow we’re hitting Muenster. I’ve been there too, but I’d like to get a closer (and longer) look at it.
